2012-2013 CBNGP Catholic High School Scholarship Essay Contest

The Catholic Business Network of Greater Philadelphia ("CBNGP") is delighted to announce its 3rd

Annual Catholic High School Scholarship Essay Contest. We invite all eligible individuals to enter an essay

for consideration. The rules and procedures are set forth below.

Scholarships will be awarded to students who will enter an Archdiocesan High School in the Archdiocese

of Philadelphia in the fall of 2013. At least 2 winners will be chosen for a minimum of a $1,000

scholarship. The awards will be presented at The Scholarship Awards Gala, held in October of 2013. All

winners and parents are invited as our guests to attend the Scholarship Gala.

ESSAY TOPIC: How will a Catholic high school education prepare you for the lifelong challenge of responding to critics who ask, what is the reason you believe in your faith?

Eligibility: To be eligible, students must be entering an Archdiocesan High School in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as a freshman in the Fall of 2013. The schools included are:

Archbishop Carroll, Archbishop Ryan, Archbishop Wood, Bishop McDevitt, Bishop Shanahan, Bonner/Prendie, Cardinal O’Hara, Conwell-Egan, Father Judge, Hallahan, John Paul II, Lansdale Catholic, Little Flower, Mercy Vocational, Neumann-Goretti, Roman Catholic, St. Hubert’s, and West Catholic.

Rules: Students must submit a typewritten essay according to the following guidelines:

• The essay must be the student’s own work

• No more than 500 words, typewritten

• Times New Roman font, minimum 12 point size, double spaced, 1 inch margins

• Cover page including:

• Student’s name, address, and phone number, and e-mail address of parent

• Name of the school or Parish currently attending

• Signature of the student AND parent/guardian in agreement of the rules

• Duplicate copy WITHOUT the student’s name

• Eligible Catholic high school that you wish to attend

Judging: Essays will be evaluated anonymously on style and grammar, clarity of content, innovation and

creativity, and conformity with topic. The duplicate copy will be assigned a number by CBNGP and will

be sent randomly to volunteer judges.

All essays submitted will become the property of CBNGP. CBNGP reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding eligibility and interpretation of the rules. In the event for any reason the winners do not attend an eligible Catholic High School, the runner up in that category will receive the scholarship.

Checks will be made directly to the school in August 2013 once attendance is confirmed.

Due Date: All essays must be POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN November 15, 2012. Essays should be

delivered by regular mail to the following address:
